Week VIII - Day 4

Cat Woman at Logali House

I think I was looking so cute that even the cats had to sit under my spell.

We’d been to Logali House a couple of times before and found that the internet and power was always running and the food was good and I could use my visa so, why not indulge once a week.

This particular day, I had already done the necessary social media crawl and ordered an amazing salad: avocado, tomato, bell pepper, cucumber and lettuce.  We sat at a booth where I’d seen two black cats jump up on the bench when the Japanese and Spaniard were there last. On Sundays, Logali House (run by Kenyans) plays salsa music and there are many people there for the Latin-influenced food of the day. The trio of two Japanese and one Spanish man had been sitting enjoying what looked like enchiladas…I didn’t want to stare at their food too long…and then the cats joined them.

At first I thought that one of the ladies had actually been petting the cat while eating her food (GROSS!) but, I was wrong. I found out that the cats simply took it upon themselves to sit next to pretty women. I was no different.

I had already finished my salad and was talking to Michael when the mother cat jumped up on the bench and squeezed behind me. Although her claws were out, she did not scratch me. Within seconds, the baby cat followed and made himself at home at my side. I was instantly annoyed.

To be clear, I don’t dislike animals and I’ll never be cruel to them but, I don’t like them around when I’m eating or seated at a table for eating. These cats had no regard for my feelings and remained put even though I’d been unsuccessfully shooing them away.

The little one kept moving and reminded me of the times when my kids would come and get in the bed with us and do far too much tossing and turning for me and would eventually be banished back to their own rooms. The kitty kept moving and pawing until I was eventually feed up and pushed him down. The mother, however, had fallen fast asleep and continued to use me as an over-sized pillow on which to relax.

I could not believe how comfortable she’d gotten! She remained with me for about 30-minutes enjoying a literal catnap. I imagined how tired she must have been walking around in the heat all day, no one to pet her, and constantly begging for scraps. Life must have been a bit overwhelming for her.

Then I thought, “Do cats dream? I wonder what she’s dreaming about right now.”

When we got ready to leave, I moved very slowly so as not to startle her. She stayed put and I was able to snap a few extra pictures of her.

Enjoy!
