Week VI - Day 3
Time to Write - Thank you!
I finally took time to sit down and focus on writing and what a joy it was! I was able get so much done and I felt extremely happy about the power not failing and the internet staying connected. Most of all, I was glad about the fact that my mind was clear because the rain from the day before had me and Michael pretty stressed. I had no idea how exciting it would be to simply sit and write for an entire day.
Sequestered away in my room and away from all
the distractions; Michael sitting and admiring me, the pool guy and his constant
questions about Beyonce, Rihanna, and America, and the parade of hotel staff
who find it impossible to wave their hellos...they must stop, shake your hand,
and ask how you're doing. I'm not used to working so hard and in one place and
if you know me you also know that I also find it very difficult write without
libation. Thankfully, unlike the fuel shortage, there is no shortage of good
South African red wine!
Armed with peace and quiet, electricity, a solid
internet connection, and red wine, I got down to business. My goal was to catch
up and get completely on track with my weeks and days. The pattern I've been
using has been as follows:
- One long blog on odd weeks
- Daily updates on even weeks
- Michael's thought on Sundays (new)
Because the days are different and don't hold a pattern yet,
it has been difficult to keep the daily updates daily. So many things happen
between the time we wake up and go back to sleep. Like some ultra religious
folk carrying their Bibles everywhere, I keep my composition book with me
jotting notes down regarding the events I think would be interesting to write
about later; hoping that you'll enjoy.
I've been surprised and uplifted by your encouragement.
There's a part of me that knew I wrote well but, this is the first time I've
actually shared my writings and received feedback. It's been super eye-opening
especially because I've not had any formal training on writing short stories
and/or essays. I'm looking forward to piecing it all together as a book
later.
Thanks everyone for reading, offering feedback, and
encouraging me. You have definitely energized me!
